Pupils are introduced to the freestyle bent arm recovery and become confident over longer distances using the learner breather technique of rolling on their backs to breathe. Basics in other strokes also taught.

|Improver 1:||1/2 hr class.
Pupils are introduced to freestyle breathing on their side. Basics in other strokes also taught.
|8.30 minutes to 10 minutes.|
|Improver 2:||1/2 hr class.
Pupils are now gaining confidence with freestyle breathing to the side. Basic technique in other strokes continued.
|6.30 minutes to 8.30 minutes.|
|Advanced Improvers:||1/2 hr class.
Further improving stroke technique and speed.
|5.00 minutes to 6.30 minutes.|
|Semi-Flight:||1/2 hr class.
Improving fitness, advancing stroke technique in all 4 strokes, learning race strategy. Improvement on race starts and turns.
|Under 5 minutes.|
|Flight:||1 hr class.
Working hard and enjoying doing so. Further improving fitness, swimming, and race skills including race starts and turns.
|Under 4 minutes.|
|Top Flight:||A selected group of swimmers who swim for competition. Extra training sessions are attended.|
Courses are aligned with the primary school term, other than top flight swimmers who also swim during most holiday periods.
